While at sea, container vessel London Express (Hapag-Lloyd) reported Under-Piston high temperature for Unit No.5 and collapse of all 4 Rings.
The crew opened up this unit for overhaul, when they noted liner wear down in the range of 9mm. Meaning it had to be replaced immediately.
As the vessel was heading to Auckland, we were contacted at very short notice to attend the vesel for the engine liner replacement from cylinder 5 on their main engine. (9K90MC)
It was crucial to have it done in a 24-hour window and we completed it in 12.
The work was done smoothly, with the assistance of the ship’s crew and a M.A.N representative (engine maker).
